  - Dr Richard Morgan 
Soil scientists are desperately needed in the Agribusiness arena, but what do they actually do and what qualifications will our students need to enter this career path? This session will include a get-your-hands-dirty dissection of soil profiles and what constitutes and ‘good’ and ‘bad’ soil

Resourcing Workshop - Silver Fern Farms Cooking Class
Opportunities in the food industry, and a practical cooking session using tasty recipes for beef, venison and lamb run by chef Greg Piner – currently Group Chef at Vault 21 and Prohibition in Dunedin.

Chef Greg Piner trained in Greymouth and over the years has steadily worked his way up the ladder. He has worked at many leading restaurants and luxury lodges alongside some of New Zealand’s best-known chefs. These include Warwick Brown at Mikano, Richard Cross at Millbrook, Christchurch Casino and Michael Coughlin at Pier 24 in Dunedin. Prior to his current role he spent five years as head chef at Pier 24 Restaurant at Hotel St Clair.

Hear firsthand from a group of young local professionals working in different sectors of NZ’s innovative primary industry.

-         The Present: insights into their current role – what they actually ‘do’ in a typical day.

-         The Past: How did they get there? What training or qualifications did they need for the role?

-         The Future: What’s their next step if they want to change roles? How transferable are their skills? What are their career prospects in the next 5-10 years?

Michelle Glogau, CEO, GrowingNZ, will also provide an overview of opportunities in the primary industry including the current and future skills needed by many sectors, and the range of activities, resources and events to help teachers and students explore these exciting opportunities.

Food Traceability: The Way of the Future - Dr. Jacqueline Rowarth 
Traceability enables corrective actions (such as a product recall) to be implemented quickly and effectively when something goes wrong. When a potential food safety problem is identified, whether by a food business or a government agency, an effective traceability system can help isolate and prevent contaminated products from reaching consumers. It is also becoming very important because of ‘food fraud’.

Leadership in Agribusiness - Mr Dan Boulton
Dan leads the livestock procurement, non-livestock procurement, logistics and production planning functions for our organisation.  Dan was with Sealord for six years in a Supply Chain role and prior to Sealord held a variety of roles at the Wilcox Group of companies and before that CHH Forests. Dan brings a strong primary industry set of experiences in operations, procurement, supply chain and leadership.
